On 15 and 22 July 2026, Prof. Antoni Torres, Homi-Lung researcher from Fundació de Recerca Clínic Barcelona-Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), took part in two public engagement sessions organised in collaboration with the City Council of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Catalonia, Spain).
The activities were designed for a clearly defined target audience: senior citizens who can directly benefit from accessible, evidence-based information on respiratory health. More than sixty participants had the opportunity to discuss how pneumonia develops, how it can affect the body beyond the lungs, and how it may be linked to other conditions, including cardiovascular disease.
The sessions also introduced participants to current research priorities within Homi-Lung and provided practical guidance on prevention, vaccination, the appropriate use of antibiotics and the early recognition of warning signs.
Through direct dialogue with Prof. Torres, the initiative helped translate complex scientific knowledge into relevant information that participants could connect with their own health, experiences and everyday decisions.
