Prof. Antoine Roquilly, coordinator of the Homi-Lung project, has been invited to speak at a European Respiratory Society (ERS) webinar organised by the Institut Pasteur in Lille on 29 April 2026. During the session, he will deliver a presentation entitled “Personalised non-antimicrobial therapy for severe pneumonia.”
The talk will address a growing area of interest in pneumonia research: how host–microbiome interactions may help explain why patients with severe pneumonia follow different clinical trajectories and respond differently to treatment. Building on this perspective, the presentation will explore the concept of respiratory dysbiosis and how it may contribute to disease severity and recovery.
Prof. Roquilly will also discuss how patients with severe pneumonia can be stratified into subgroups according to host–lung microbiome interactions, and how these distinct “pneumotypes” may be associated with different clinical outcomes and responses to immunotherapy. Finally, the presentation will highlight the potential therapeutic role of the healthy respiratory microbiome core in supporting pneumonia recovery.
These themes are closely aligned with Homi-Lung’s scientific ambition to better understand the biological mechanisms linking pneumonia, immunity and microbiome alterations, and to support the development of more personalised approaches to care. This webinar offers a valuable opportunity to share emerging concepts with the wider respiratory and critical care community.
