On 2 February 2026, members of the Homi-Lung consortium are taking part in the Research and Education Virtual Symposium organised by FOCIS, entitled “Understanding Host–Respiratory Microbiome Dynamics for New Pneumonia Treatments.”
The online symposium (15:00–17:00 CET) brings together leading researchers from Europe and beyond to discuss recent advances in immunology and microbiome research with direct relevance to pneumonia and severe respiratory infections.
The scientific programme features contributions from Homi-Lung consortium members based at the University of Nantes (Antoine Roquilly, Homi-Lung project coordinator, and Florian Pierre Martin), the Hellenic Sepsis Study Group (Evangelos Giamarellos-Bourboulis), Radboud University (Mihai Netea) and the University of Michigan (Robert Dickson). Together, they address complementary perspectives on the interaction between host immunity, the respiratory microbiome and clinical outcomes in pneumonia.
Key topics covered during the symposium include the identification of hospital-acquired pneumonia endotypes defined by immuno-microbial signatures, mechanisms of immune dysregulation and the role of macrolides, host–microbiome metabolites and pathways, and emerging non-antimicrobial therapeutic strategies for severe pneumonia.
Participation in initiatives such as this FOCIS symposium reflects the commitment of the Homi-Lung project and its partners to advancing scientific knowledge and ensuring that the latest research findings are shared with the international clinical and translational immunology community.
