The Homi-Lung project, funded by the European Union with a budget of €6 million, officially commenced with a Kick-Off Meeting on January 17th and 18th, 2024, at the Chateau de Nantes. The event gathered partners from Europe, Israel and the USA, who engaged in detailed discussions about the project’s objectives and work packages.

During the meeting, participants explored the various work packages (WPs) central to the project’s success. WP2 focused on coordinating patient cohorts, ensuring diverse data integration. WP3 and WP4 addressed understanding the molecular mechanisms linking pneumonia with cardiovascular diseases, aiming to identify new therapeutic targets. WP5 concentrated on developing advanced artificial intelligence tools to analyse complex data sets, which will help in predicting disease progression and personalising treatment approaches.

WP6 emphasized the importance of preclinical models, crucial for testing potential interventions before they reach clinical trials. WP7, dedicated to communication, dissemination, and exploitation, was also discussed in detail, underlining the project’s commitment to ensuring that its findings are effectively shared and applied across different stakeholders.

Led by Prof. Antoine Roquilly from CHU Nantes, Homi-Lung will run for five years, with the aim of significantly advancing the understanding and treatment of cardiovascular diseases related to pneumonia. The project’s multidisciplinary approach, combining clinical research, preclinical studies, and advanced data analytics, positions it as a pivotal initiative in the fight against these interconnected health challenges.
